Youlou Arts Foundation will hold a number of programmes scheduled to take place at the Youlou Art Centre during the months of July and August.
The modern “Growing Young SVG Artists” application designed for children age 5 to 13 will take place in 4 locations.
From July 24th to August 11th. From 9 – 12 Monday to Friday. Children in and around the Kingstown area will have a new place of duty this year; it will be taken at the newly established Youlou Art Centre Villa Beach.
The Georgetown programme will be held at the Georgetown Government School.The Spring Village location is at the Spring Village Methodist School, while for those in Central Leeward The Barrouallie Government School will be the venue.
The 2017 programme is titled “From the Sea”, with a particular focus on whales. A broad range of inspiring projects has been created for this year’s programme.
Special projects were designed to teach the children about whales and their habits. There will be some textile projects, such a weaving and painting on fabric, making collages like the famous French painter Matisse, and learning about him.
Poems about the sea will be shared, with the hope of inspiring the children to write their own. Bookmaking and learning songs about the sea will be part of the programme.
New this year is an embroidery and sewing workshop for children 11 years and up. This workshop will start Monday, July 24th and end August 11th. Time is 2 to 4 pm.
In this workshop, a hand embroidered tote bag will be made.Basic hand embroidery stitches will be taught; participants will create their own embroidery design and make a tote bag.
The Basic Sewing Workshop taught by Annella Campbell will continue. In this workshop, the fundamentals of garment construction, such as construction details, styling, alteration and fitting details will be taught.
This workshop runs for two months, starts Saturday, July 1st. Time 3 to 5 pm.
