New Whatsapp feature will let users ‘pin’ important chats and keep boring ones at bottom

WHATSAPP has launched a new feature that lets users rank certain conversations over others. The new “pinned” message feature allows you to prioritise up to three contacts and groups to the top of your list of WhatsApp conversations.

This makes it easier for you to ignore notifications from the conversations (and people) you aren’t too fussed about – no matter how many messages the chat receives.

Although WhatsApp’s existing mute feature comes in handy for dodging notifications, these chats still jump right back to the top of your conversation list when anyone in the chat sends a message.

Pinned chats let you keep the messages at the bottom of the pile for good. The handy feature has already been rolled out to Android users, who should be able to download the update over the next few days.

iPhone users will have to wait slightly longer – but the feature is likely to come to at some point in the near future. A spokesperson for Whatsapp said: “With pinned chats, you never have to worry about scrolling through the long list of conversations to text your family members or your best friend.

“Users can now pin up to three of the most important group or individual chats to the top of their chat list for easy access – simply tap and hold a chat, and then tap the pin icon at the top of your screen.”

Whatsapp is also trialling an “un-send” feature – which will let you recall any messages within a certain amount of time after clicking “send”.
